Local Artists Showcase Talent on the Walls of Florida Hospital Altamonte

Local artists, including physicians, provide a brush of hope and happiness at the hospital

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla., July 20, 2011 - Florida Hospital Altamonte, the Seminole Cultural Arts Council and the Circle Christian School have joined together to showcase the Art of Healing Gallery at the hospital for patients, families and employees to enjoy. The gallery was created last year in order for hospital employees and guests to have a place to escape through local works of art. The themes for the gallery change every three months in order to keep the spirit alive and allow for artists all over Central Florida to get their chance to pitch in. The current gallery theme is "Finding Balance."

"Since I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, art has become more of a healing and relaxing activity for me," said Dr. Puxiao Cen, Florida Hospital Altamonte cardiologist and contributing artist. "I hope that when people see my artwork and others' artwork as well, they are inspired just as much as I have been in my time of need. The Art of Healing Gallery does this by allowing artists, employees, patients and guests to be able to express themselves and view the pieces whenever they wish."

Florida Hospital Altamonte invites art enthusiasts and local residents alike to partake in this free, 24-hour gallery. The gallery features paintings, photographs and other two-dimensional pieces from artists of all ages, as well as hospital employees. All pieces are on sale in the gallery for anyone interested in taking home a piece of the inspiration with 25 percent of proceeds benefitting the Florida Hospital Foundation.

"The Art of Healing Gallery has proven to be quite a success at Florida Hospital Altamonte," said Josie Foranoce, laboratory director at Florida Hospital Altamonte and arts council board member.  "It not only gives individuals the opportunity to escape from their worries or stresses with beautiful artwork, but it also gives local artists the opportunity to showcase their work in a place where it will be seen frequently."
