Stroke Patients at Florida Hospital Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Use "Wiihab" On the Road to Recovery

ORLANDO, Fla., May 28, 2008 - The Nintendo Wii TM is making headlines for its exercise and fitness benefits, and now stroke patients at Florida Hospital are also reaping the health benefits of the popular game console. Florida Hospital Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine is using "Wiihab" to enhance rehab care for patients. Wii TM games provide a range of motions that is beneficial to patient recovery and can even be modified for sitting or standing.  Now, patients who have suffered debilitating illnesses can actively participate in their own treatment in the early stages of recovery.

Today, 69-year-old Bill Campbell, who recently suffered a minor stroke that affected his physical skills, used this enhanced form of rehab.  Campbell, who enjoyed traveling with his job and flying planes before his stroke, now duck hunts and fishes to improve his skills during his "Wiihab" sessions.

Florida Hospital Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine has offered inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services throughout Central Florida since 1961.  Florida Hospital Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine offers a comprehensive rehabilitation center within a premier multi-specialty medical center and performs more orthopaedic surgeries than any other hospital in the state of Florida. Florida Hospital Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine's Stroke Specialty program is the only one in Central Florida that has received the highest level of accreditation by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehab Facilities.
