ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 13, 2012 Jan. 13, 2012 - Florida Hospital for Children has doubled the size of its pediatric emergency department. The hospital opened eight new private rooms to provide emergency pediatric care to kids in Central Florida. Opened in 2008, the number of patients seen in the pediatric emergency department per year has more than doubled, leading to the need for additional rooms.
The newly expanded 16-bed pediatric emergency department offers patients private rooms and bathrooms, a child-friendly waiting area and a highly-trained pediatric emergency care team. Additionally, the state-of-the-art Philips Ambient Experience lighting system in every room allows patients to change the design on the wall and even the color of the room. Each room also features a flat screen TV with access to the GetWellNetwork®, an interactive tool that entertains, educates and allows patients to provide real time feedback on their experience in the hospital.
"At Florida Hospital for Children, we offer the latest technology and access to a wide network of sub-specialists to make sure our patients get the best care possible, yet simultaneously provide a relaxing and child-friendly atmosphere in an emergency environment," said Dr. Dennis Hernandez, medical director of pediatric emergency medicine at Florida Hospital for Children. "When the patient is less anxious and more relaxed we know they heal faster. We have created an environment here that not only offers expert pediatric care but an excellent patient experience"
Florida Hospital for Children's pediatric emergency department opened in 2008, with 8 private rooms. However, since that time the number of patients seen per year has more than doubled which led to an addition of 8 new private rooms that are now available to better serve patients with health emergencies.
