ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 29, 2007 - Imagine trekking through a parking lot in 100-degree heat after receiving your chemotherapy treatment. The walk, combined with the heat, can be difficult for patients and their caregivers. That is just one of the reasons Florida Hospital Cancer Institute (FHCI) is offering a new trolley service to enhance the patient experience and make the patients' visits more comfortable. Recently, FHCI celebrated the inaugural lap with a very special volunteer behind the wheel - the husband of a cancer patient who will be driving patients to and from FHCI for treatment and appointments once a week.
Florida Hospital Cancer Institute cares for more newly diagnosed cancer patients than any other hospital system in Florida. FHCI has the largest clinical trials program in Florida and participates in more than 175 clinical trials each year for all types of cancer. In 2006, FHCI was one of 12 community oncology programs in the country to receive honors from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, recognizing its commitment to improving care for cancer patients through increased participation in clinical trials.
