Orlando, Fla., Oct. 20, 2009 - Local golfers hit the golf course for the Florida Hospital Diabetes Institute Golf Invitational at Shingle Creek Golf Club on Oct. 9. Teams of four players played a round of golf "scramble" to raise awareness and money to help those affected by diabetes.
Approximately 100 players and volunteers attended the event which raised $91,000. All proceeds from this year's event will directly benefit the Florida Hospital Diabetes Institute, which treats more than 30,000 patients with diabetes every year.
"With diabetes reaching epidemic proportions, there has never been a greater need to care for and educate patients with diabetes," said Louis Katz, administrator of the Florida Hospital Diabetes Institute. "The golf tournament is a wonderful opportunity for our community to support the Diabetes Institute and be part of making a difference for those with diabetes. We strive to help people living with diabetes in the Central Florida area and beyond live a healthy, productive and enjoyable life."
