Florida Hospital Expert to Discuss Skin Cancer As Summer Approaches

WHAT:   With summer right around the corner, it is more important to be aware of the dangers of sun exposure since it can lead to skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. On Tuesday, Florida Hospital surgical oncologist Dr. Dennis Rousseau will be available to discuss the signs, symptoms and dangers of skin cancer and melanoma.  Melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, accounts for only three percent of skin cancer cases, but causes more than 75 percent of skin cancer deaths.

As part of the American Academy of Dermatology's Melanoma Awareness Month, Florida Hospital is joining this national effort to better inform the community about melanoma. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime.  Each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than breast, prostate and lung cancer combined.
