ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 27, 2007 -This year Florida Hospital's largest annual fundraiser, the Golden Gala, raised $1.3 million that will help the hospital continue to meet the growing needs of the community. This is the largest amount ever raised in the event's 27-year history.
Nearly 2,500 people attended this year's event, Golden Gala XXVII, held at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in November.
"This year's Golden Gala was a phenomenal success and truly speaks to the community's commitment to healthcare and Florida Hospital," said Terry Newmyer, chief development officer of the Florida Hospital Foundation.
In addition to the $1.3 million raised at the event, Florida Hospital announced during Golden Gala XXVII that it had surpassed its $100 million campaign goal more than a year earlier than anticipated. Since November 2006, the hospital has received a $5 million gift from Tony and Sonja Nicholson, owners of Nicholson Homes; a $20 million from Alan H. Ginsburg and the Ginsburg Family Foundation; and a $10 million gift from Walt Disney World.
Florida Hospital has also received 18 gifts of at least $1 million from other notable Central Florida organizations.
To keep pace with the healthcare needs of the growing and aging population, Florida Hospital has determined that it will need to raise $600 million by 2010. To meet that need, Florida Hospital continues to depend on the generous support of the Central Florida community.
