Florida Hospital Nurses Provide Different Kind of Care to US Soldiers

Nursing Units Ship Fathers' Day Care Packages to Iraq

ORLANDO, Fla., June 14, 2006 - Florida Hospital nurses are used to caring for their patients in the hospital, but now these nurses are extending their compassion to soldiers overseas. The nurses gathered in their units to pack up the items they donated and collected for the US Troops in Iraq.  Nurses from the Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit, the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, and the Cardiovascular Intervention Unit have spent the last month collecting supplies to include in the care package to send to the US Soldiers in Iraq.

"We have always prayed for our soldiers in our staff meetings, but realized we wanted to do something more," said Florida Hospital Assistant Nurse Manager Charla Albury. "Sending these care packages was something easy and simple that we could do to support our troops.  We realize just how much they sacrifice for us and we just wanted to show them how much we appreciate them!"

The care package will arrive in Iraq just in time for Fathers' Day.  Included in the package is Fathers' Day cards and gifts, magazines, DVDs, playing cards, US Troop phone cards, cookies, beef jerky, ramen noodles, instant coffee, non-melting candy and gum, chap stick, sunscreen, and more!

"This opportunity has given us a chance to extend the Florida Hospital mission over seas and take care of those who are taking care of all of us here in America," said Albury.
