ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 3, 2008 - On average, men in the United States die six years younger than women and have higher death rates for all 15 leading causes of death. However, many of the top 10 causes of death and disability can be prevented or delayed, as long as treatment is given early. That is where Florida Hospital East Orlando is stepping in by launching a new Men's Health Program aimed at encouraging men over 40 to take a proactive role in their health. The program makes it easy to get checked out in a variety of different areas. Dr. Stephen Dobkin, a urologist, is one of the specialists spearheading the hospital's new Men's Health Program. "I think there's a need in this community for men to take a timeout to care about themselves, and be exposed to information about men's health issues."
Florida Hospital East Orlando is providing an easy way to get a health check and learn about the top concerns facing men like: cancer (including prostate, testicular and colorectal), cardiac care, diabetes, hernia repair, obesity, sleep disorders and sports injuries. The program offers an age appropriate health screening guide for men to keep in their wallets to stay on schedule for a healthy life. There are also opportunities to learn more about men's health issues at a series of lectures given by doctors in those specific areas men worry about the most.
No matter the age, there's no better time to make a game plan for a long and health life.
