ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 16, 2009 - Florida Hospital East Orlando and Waterford Lakes Town Center hosted the event In the Loop: Stretching the Pink Ribbon Around the World on Sunday, Sept. 13. Thousands of women attended this unique event to help spread the message about breast cancer awareness around the world.
At the event, women had the unique opportunity to make international phone calls to women from various countries to spread the message about the importance of annual mammograms. In total, 36 different countries were called during the event and more than 100 women contacted.
"It is so important to educate women about the importance of mammography," said Dr. Priya Vishnu, Florida Hospital medical oncologist. "It is our hope to spread that message around the world. Getting regular mammograms is the best way for women to protect themselves against breast cancer."
Thousands of community members attended In the Loop wearing pink and pearls and spent the afternoon browsing a variety of fun stations specially designed for women, offering everything from information about digital mammography, massages, cosmetics, information about women's organizations, self defense, delicious lattes, pink ribbon bagels, entertainment and more.
In the Loop was created by Florida Hospital East Orlando to serve as a prelude to National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which occurs in October.
