Florida Hospital Celebration Health Receives Beacon Award

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses selected the ICU at Celebration Health

CELEBRATION, Fla., May 24, 2010- Florida Hospital Celebration Health's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was the first in Central Florida to receive the National Beacon Award by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The Beacon Award recognizes adult critical care, adult progressive care and pediatric critical care units that exemplify nursing innovation, high quality patient outcomes, healthy work environments, commitment to excellence, leadership and organizational ethics.

For patients and families that go to a unit that is awarded this prestigious Beacon Award, it exemplifies better care and improved outcomes. For the nurses, it means a positive, healthy work environment and high morale. Hospitals earning the Beacon Award are both locally and nationally recognized for excellence in healthcare. The Beacon Award affirms the unit's passion to fulfill the promise of the community of high acuity and critical care nurses who hold the welfare of patients and their families as primary.

The Adult ICU application for the Beacon Award for Critical-Care Excellence is an on-line process. Each application is reviewed by three to five external experts who decide which organizations will receive the honor.  Hospitals that participate in the Beacon Award application process help set the standard for what constitutes an excellent acute and critical care environment through the collection of evidence-based information.
