Florida Hospital Apopka's Vision 2020 Fundraiser a Huge Success

APOPKA, Fla., Oct. 7, 2009 - Florida Hospital Apopka hosted its fourth annual Vision 2020 fundraising event on Oct. 4 at the Apopka Community Center. More than 175 people attended this year's event which raised approximately $25,000 for the hospital. Vision 2020 is a long-range effort to improve and grow Florida Hospital Apopka so that by the year 2020, it will be a full-service community hospital.

"The fourth annual Vision 2020 event was a wonderful evening and the Western Round-up theme was lots of fun," said Verbelee Nielsen-Swanson, Florida Hospital Apopka administrator. "I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to our sponsors and the dedication of the amazing Vision 2020 committee members. The support of each individual in attendance truly makes a difference in the lives of our community."

Florida Hospital Apopka cares for more than 55,000 individuals annually and is well on its way to becoming a full-service community hospital. Several new services have been added this year including a women's center, which provides digital mammograms and bone density scans, a sleep lab and inpatient dialysis services.

"Because of this continued support, we have been able to expand services and facilities including the recruitment of new physicians, expansion of emergency department triage and acquisition of new imaging equipment," said Bert Carrier, Florida Hospital Apopka foundation chairman. "Once again, the Apopka community came together to show their support for our mission, which is to extend the healing ministry of Christ. Florida Hospital Apopka is pleased to be of service to Apopka residents and the support of our community is helping us grow with our community."

Local Apopka resident Karen Ross was the 2009 Vision 2020 committee chair. The western-themed event featured a barbeque dinner and live and silent auctions. The presenting sponsor was A.T.A.P. Companies and other sponsors included Joyce Brocker, Embarq, Barbara and Edward Hirschberg and Verbelee Nielsen-Swanson.
