At only 29-years-old, Yudelka Santana Hernandez made the difficult decision to undergo a double mastectomy to decrease her chances of being diagnosed with the cancer that has haunted her family. New technology at Florida Hospital Orlando assisted the surgeons who gave her back her feminine by ensuring all the skin tissue used during breast reconstruction was viable and alive. The SPY Elite uses a laser and dye to show surgeons what tissue has been damaged after a mastectomy, saving the patient from undergoing additional surgeries to fix the common complication. Florida Hospital Orlando Opens Advanced Neurosurgical Suites to the Southeast
Florida Hospital Orlando recently opened a new state-of-the-art neurosurgical center, making the hospital one of the most advanced centers for neurosurgery in the nation. The neurosurgical center marks a milestone for Central Florida as it will provide the highest level of treatment for brain and spine disorders using precise, safe and reliable care. The new operating rooms are equipped with the most sophisticated imaging technology and design, improving the precision of care and providing the latest in neurosurgical treatment for adults and children. An advanced MRI system floats seamlessly back and forth on a track between two of the operating rooms. Unlike traditional MRI scans, which can only take images before or after surgery is completed, the MRI is intra-operative, meaning it eliminates the need to move patients during surgery to take scans. One unique operating room, the InnovatOR, will be utilized as a unique space for innovation and research through partnerships with industry leaders.
