Central Florida Leaders Get Blue Hair to Support the Orlando Magic's Playoff Run
Florida Hospital and the Orlando Magic unveil Orlando's hottest fashion accessory
ORLANDO, Fla., May 17, 2010 - Magic fever has gone to the heads of local leaders as they sport BLUE HAIR! In support of the Orlando Magic's run for the NBA Finals, Orlando Magic Mascot STUFF and Orlando Magic Dancers styled the hair of some of Central Florida's most influential leaders with the blue locks. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty received the limited edition blue hair to show their Magic spirit and help a good cause at the same time.
"We are so excited that our community is getting involved and coming together to support the Orlando Magic," said Mayor Dyer. "I think it shows a national audience all of the great things that Orlando has to offer."
Both mayors also issued a proclamation encouraging everyone in Orlando and Orange County to wear blue and white to support the Orlando Magic.
"We are coming together today to show our support for our home team," said Mayor Crotty. "That is why today we are issuing proclamations to encourage the community to wear blue and white."
Even the Magic's own Chief Operating Officer Alex Martins donned the blue locks to show his support for the team.
"It is so wonderful to see organizations like Florida Hospital rally around the Magic in such a creative way," said Orlando Magic Chief Operating Officer Alex Martins. "It really gets the team motivated when the community is behind them."
Additionally, in an unprecedented move, Florida Hospital will allow their employees to show their GO BLUE spirit by allowing the staff to wear their blue locks to work through the end of the playoff season.
"Florida Hospital has been the official hospital of the Magic for more than 20 years now," said Florida Hospital Chief Operating Officer Brian Paradis. "Our employees are a big part of this community and we want them to be able to join with the rest of Central Florida to show their team spirit."
The proceeds from blue hair sales will benefit Florida Hospital for Children and the Orlando Magic Foundation. The public can also sport the new blue hairstyle. For $10, clip in blue hair can be purchased at the Arena during Magic home games, The Official Playoff Headquarters in the Altamonte Mall, and all Florida Hospital gift shops.
