Florida Hospital Hosts Distinguished Lecture Series Town Hall On Autism: What We Know and What We Need

WHAT:     According to the Autism Society of America, Autism is the fastest-growing
developmental disability and one in 110 children in the U.S. are born with an autism
disorder. The rising awareness of this condition has done little to help parents decipher the
conflicting research and treatment options for autism, yet experts do agree that early
diagnosis and treatment are crucial. However, parents often face contradictory information
which can be overwhelming and frustrating.

This Town Hall meeting, open to the community, features three national autism experts:
Geraldine Dawson, MD, Scientific Leader of Autism Speaks & Research Professor of
Psychiatry at UNC-Chapel Hill; Thomas R. Insel, MD, Director of the National Institute of
Mental Health; and Lonnie Zeltzer, MD, Director of the Pediatric Pain Program at UCLA Mattel
Children's Hospital. Together, they will describe the latest diagnosis and treatment options
for autism and will discuss research findings including the role of genetics.
